Mood Problems

Mood disorders are psychological conditions in which the main problem is someone's enduring emotional state. These disorders affect about one in five adults and one in seven children, and include depressive disorders (e.g., major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder) in which a person's mood is persistently low or depressed, and bipolar disorder in which someone's mood may be depressed and/or elevated (i.e. manic). Both adults and children with mood disorders are at significantly higher risk for suicide than those without mood disorders.
